Fitness and Travel Motivation

Keeping up your fitness while you travel can be difficult to prioritize. Trust me, I get it. You are likely drinking more alcohol and/or eating food that is new to your body and in larger quantities. It’s hard to get your butt out of bed, but let me tell you, it is ALWAYS worth it! You’ll have more energy to explore (or relax on the beach with a tiki drink), and you’ll kick that dreaded jet lag much quicker.

We’ve ran in the Vietnam heat (wouldn’t recommend actually), recreated a CrossFit Open workout on a beach in Positano, ran crawled up and down hills in Portugal, kayaked Fjords in Norway, and strength trained in various resort gyms across the world. If you think your fitness has to be on hold while you travel, I’m here to challenge you to change your mindset. Whether you’re travelling for work or holiday, you DON’T have to lose all of that progress you’ve made in the gym.

My #1 tip? The absolute best time to get it done is in the morning before breakfast. This is when your motivation is strongest and you’re more likely to get distracted or put it off if you wait.

#2 Start as soon as possible! The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get into a routine and find the energy to get in a workout. Fight off those negative thoughts right away by remembering why you are prioritizing this in the first place. Remember: 1) higher energy levels 2) better sleep 3) less jet lag and, the best part, 4) more enjoyment of the indulgences that come with travel!

To help you get started, here is one of my favorite travel workouts and no equipment needed! Now get those endorphins pumping! I believe in you!
